Description

Home is Where is a memoir and reflection upon on the childhood of Margaret Beetham, whose parents were Helen and Lesslie Newbigin, missionary parents in South India in the 1940s and early 1950s. Students of the life and ministry of Lesslie Newbigin will discover an intimate new perspective on the much-admired missionary theologian, although this is MargaretÕs story, centred around the profound effects of being sent away from the heat, colour and safety of her Indian home to the cold and grey of an old-fashioned girlsÕ boarding school in England, aged 12, and the reverberations of that early loss in her life and in her relationship with her younger sister Ð entrusted to her care in childhood, and much later in life as her sister faces death. Home is Where deals with a particular experience of childhood loss of home and loved ones which harks back to the missionary and imperial traditions of the nineteenth century and forward to the child migrations of today. Its underlying themes are of loss and letting go but it is also about rediscovery and enlightenment in life and faith.
