The Book of Philippians: A pastoral and caring letter inviting all of humanity to live with humility and perseverance. Philippians paints humility, not merely as modesty or shyness, but as deep care for other people—doing nothing out of selfish ambition but instead holding others’ interests over our own and valuing others above ourselves. Philippians acknowledges living a humble life is not easy; it first and foremost requires an awareness of Jesus’ love and presence. Furthermore, humility is a process. No one can live a life of “perfect” humility, but it is still something to press on towards—a race we endure with perseverance (Phil. 3:12-14).
